Karl Doehring was an archaeologist, art historian, and architect
who worked for the king and royal family in Siam, now Thailand.
His drawings of the art and architecture of Siam, including its
gold and black lacquerwork, are renowned for their beauty and
accuracy.
In many cases, the original artwork has been lost and
Doehring's drawings are the only surviving record.
The gallery acquired a set, number 2/500, of his gorgeous,
and exceedingly rare, gold ink on black-stock prints of
Siam gold and lacquer artwork.
